Planning a Bilingual or Multicultural Wedding Reception

Planning a Bilingual or Multicultural Wedding Reception

The short answer: start by telling your DJ which languages and traditions matter to each family. Add those songs to your planning portal early, and ask for a bilingual MC if your guests speak more than one language. That way every announcement lands with every guest, and the dance floor brings both sides together. Fresh New Angle Events has bilingual DJs and MCs and has run Latin, Russian, Jewish, and heritage-music receptions across New Jersey and New York.

Ask for a bilingual MC

At The English Manor, our bilingual DJ Juan Carlos and Chuckie Hype ran Mario and Idalia's reception in two languages, and the party was almost entirely Latin music. When announcements come in both languages, grandparents and friends all know what is happening and when to get up. Learn more on our bilingual DJ page.

Share your heritage music early

At the Smithville Inn, our DJ blended Russian and American music for both families, and the Hora was one of the biggest moments of the night. At Marina Del Rey, DJ Meatball played the must-plays alongside music from the couple's heritage. Your DJ can only build those sets if they know the songs ahead of time, so add them to your portal as soon as you can.

Plan coverage around your traditions

Some traditions happen in two places at once. At Jessica and Bryce's Jewish wedding at Crystal Springs Resort, the groomsmen carried the groom into the Bedeken with drums and horns, and our second videographer focused on the groom's side to catch it. If your day includes a Bedeken, a tea ceremony, or any tradition with separate moments, ask about two photographers or two videographers.

Checklist for your planning call

  • Which languages should your MC use, and for which announcements?
  • Which cultural dances or songs must happen, and when (for example, the Hora after the first dance)?
  • Are there names or words your MC should practice saying correctly?
  • Which traditions need photo or video coverage in two places at once?
