Dancing on the Clouds: What to Ask Your Venue Before You Book It

The short answer: Dancing on the Clouds is a low-lying cloud made with dry ice that surrounds you during your first dance, then fades on its own. It does not fill the room like a haze machine. Before you book it, ask your venue whether it has rules about special effects and whether a permit is needed. If a permit is required, the client is responsible for it, and the FNA office can tell you exactly what to ask.

What does Dancing on the Clouds look like?

The cloud rolls in low across the dance floor as your song starts and stays close to the floor while you dance. Because it hugs the ground, guests can still see you clearly, and the photos look like you are dancing above the clouds. See real examples on our Dancing on the Clouds page.

Questions to ask your venue

• Does the venue allow dry-ice or low-fog effects on the dance floor?
• Does the town or the venue require a permit or notice for special effects?
• Does the venue have smoke or fire detectors near the dance floor that staff need to know about?
• Are there any time windows when effects are not allowed?

Send the answers to the FNA office, and we will plan around them.

When to use it

Most couples use the cloud for their first dance. Many keep it going for the father-daughter and mother-son dances too. Tell us which songs in your planning portal, and your DJ will cue the effect for each one.

How FNA times and films it

1. Cue it: your DJ times the cloud with the first notes of your song.
2. It rolls in: the cloud spreads low across the floor around you.
3. Capture it: your photo and video team shoots low and wide to catch the effect.
4. It fades: the cloud dissipates naturally after the song.

How to add it

Dancing on the Clouds is available as an add-on to any package, and it is the enhancement included in Fresh Luxe. Pair it with a custom monogram on the floor or uplighting for a bigger first-dance moment. Compare options on our packages page.
